Celebrate with an aperitivo!

Nothing beats sitting outside in the summer with your favourite aperitvo. Here's mine from last weekend. It's a Sanbitter (pronounced Sanbitt-errrrrrrr) rosso, there's a Sanbitter bianco version too. I also have a soft spot for Aperol, sometimes with vino bianco, depending on my mood.

I say celebrate with an aperitivo because I've finally arrived at my one hundredth post! Happy birthday to Delinissima! Thank you for reading and putting up with me. Have a prosecco to celebrate, that would be a celebratory type aperitivo wouldn't it? Here's to the next one hundred :)

Congrats on reaching 100! That's a nice selection of little dishes. I love going out for aperitivi, but I usually drink cedrata because bitt-errrr is too bitter for me.

100 posts! Congrats

I love aperativi too. I was told that the aperativi food tradition started in Milan, where they do "power aperativi" after work but it's moving south!

Happy 100th post, Delina!

Thanks all!

KC, I like cedrata too. Not had one in a while though.

From what I’ve heard the Milanese aperitivo is practically a meal. You buy a drink and pile your plate up. Here it’s usually a drink and nibbles. Some places, like the one above have a better selection of nibbles than others, some just give you nuts and crisps.

There are a few places, particularly in the historical center of Rome, which have started doing the Milanese aperativo thing. It's still seen as pretty exotic though!

Congrats on your 100th post! All the Italian blogs I read always have such delicious pics of food on them. See, I always knew I belonged in Italy cos I have a passion for food ha ha.

Congrats!! I just used the last of the limoncello, so that sucks, but I will celebrate with a coffee. :)

Kata, I think there's one or two places here that do more elaborate, Milanese style aperitivo but I've never been to them.

Thanks Max!

Becs, Italy is extremely passionate about food. You'd fit in well!

Marmite, that's a shame about the limoncello finishing. Is it easy to fine in the US? Make it a caffè corretto.

Happy 100th post! My new husband and I just got back from Italy after our honeymoon there and we loved the afternoon ritual of the the apertivo so much that we've brought it back here to replicate (along with a few bottles of Aperol, which has become a favorite drink as a spritzer) Our ultimate apertivos in Italy had to be in Padova, the piazza's spilling with tables of happy people was our favorite afternoons on our trip. Although venice with their cichetti was a very, very close runner up for ultimate afternoon eating and drinking experience!

Thanks Nadine and Cherrye.

Tracinemarie, wedding congratulations to you! Sounds like you had a fantastic time. Some people don't like Aperol and the other similar aperitivi drinks straight away, I'm glad you enjoyed the Aperol! :)

Back in the UK and hungry again after leaving France...looking at your pictures makes it even more of a crisis for me....how do sausages and chips even compare?? Obviously they do not! I learned a lot about food when I lived on "the Continent" and now I am spoiled for just that. Congratulations!

100, wow! I think I'll pack up and leave now ;))!

I had a bottle of Pimm's brought over by my beloved a couple of weeks ago - I keep buying cucumbers but sticking them in salads instead!
