It's too darn hot

It's 39°C on the balcony just now and very humid. I don't like to be air con reliant, but when it gets to 32 degrees in the house then the only option is, in my opinion, to crank up the air con. On days like these I couldn't be without it.

For the first few years here I didn't have air con and I remember the summer nights where it was impossible to sleep becasue of the heat. Night after night I'd lay awake watching TV, this was in the days before we got Sky TV too. I'd end up watching CNN on La Sette channel which was on in the middle of the night. Consequently I was really up on events in America during the summer.

I always thought that people who had air conditioning were spoiled American types.  Then I discovered what it's like to live without it when it's really hot.  Oh God.

My question too was, wow you have air conditioning?

Then hearing Marmite breath say they think that only spoiled Americans have air conditioning I wonder, do others think the same thing?

It's just, when it gets sooo hot, how can you do without?

Bless air conditioning! Yes. l have heard about the heat. l was sending flowers to a friend on the coast and the florist told me it was 40C*, l changed the delivery time to early morning hopefully they will last longer than a day!!
The only way l clould sleep there was with the fan placed directly infront of my bed!!

I never had AC growing up in Australia. It's pretty hot there though not as hot as Rome - and of course, unlike Rome, there are plenty of places to swim and cool off in Sydney and you have sea breezes. I used to just use a fan and have lots of showers (and go for a swim).

But we have AC in our apartment in Rome and I must admit that I had it on yesterday (it was 41 degrees in Rome!) and it was a lifesaver (despite boyfriend's grumbling that he would get back pain from the AC.)

Just yesterday The Husband and I went to buy an portable AC but the guy said it wouldn't work on the top floor of a building and we live on the top floor. SAY WHAT? The Husband is convinced you can die from AC and doubly convinced that I am a spoiled American because I cried when we couldn't get one. The heat makes me insane. And I am a spoiled American type.

The other day when we were passing through Naples, it was 43° on the autostrada. It's pretty hot here in Rome too but we don't have fires surrounding us.
