Che Munnezz'

Here I am! I've been to my homeland :) Hence my short break from the blog world. Or did you not notice...? :D

I've seen that the rubbish problem (ie, it not being collected) is still in the news. The Camorra is rumoured to be behind the problems, as it is behind most of the problems in Naples. Although the media's reporting would lead you to believe that the whole of Naples is one big rubbish pile with fires burning, the main problems from what I have seen are in the periphery of the city. Certain areas on the outskirts even have an increased death rate because of the rubbish problems (it's not a new problem). In very central areas where more tourists go, the rubbish rarely builds up (for example around Piazza Plebiscito). Whereas in city residential areas it will build up for a few days, but not normally for more. Here's a picture of the bin outside my house today. Tutto tranquillo.

What amazes me in all of this is that no one is encouraged to create less litter, non of the big stores are pushed to use less packaging. Shop owners will wrap you everything and put it in a bag without thinking...

With this one I agree with you 110%. I just came back last week. It's amazing that for a people obsessed with cleanliness at home this goes on, but let's remember when it comes to public issues like this, these people are not masters of their own fate. I think that's why they don't care, they don't think that things can change. Very sad. Hope you enjoyed England.

That makes me wonder too how people in their homes can be so hygienic, but outside it's a completely different story. Now there's the rubbish problem, but also dropping litter is a problem and people not picking up after their dogs.

I'm glad to hear that you're not suffering from the trash pile-up in your neighborhood. We don't have trash collection problems here, at least for now, but littering is a huge problem. People leave bits of trash everywhere. The dog doo is a problem too, but that's mostly because of the stray problem.

I missed you! Glad to hear you're back safely and you aren't buried in trash. Blech.

OH Delina, I swear I was ready to send out all units, as I feared you were burried in rubish! Then, I saw you over at Expats, so I knew all was well. You went back to Englad? Weren't you just there?! Lucky you. Welcome back, I definitely noticed your absence.
