Today I cracked open my first Panettone of the season (see above). It was a gift. This means the start of the stuffing-my-face-with-cake season. Once you pop you just can't stop - or something like that.
Then in January they go to half price just to top it all off. Aiuto!

Aiuto? OKAY! I'll save you!
I think I can eat half of that... yup, I'll make the sacrifice just for you, okay? ;)
My wife & I have been working on one that she picked up last week. It isn't as good as the ones that you get but it is better than most of the other choices we have.
I've got one sitting here with orange filling and chocolate frosting and I'm determined not to eat it. But, I really prefer the pandoro. To me, the cake is the best part and all the rest are just embellishments. 'Tis the season! :)
I too am a pandoro fan. Just last Sunday we went to a friend's house for the typical Italian Sunday meal. I brought a pandoro covered in chocolate with chocolate filling. It was sinful! I still have a "columbo" sitting on top of my kicthen cabinets from Easter. YIKES!
R2R, thanks, you're a real friend ;)
Gil "working on one" is a perfect term when talking about pandoro/panettone.
MB and Giulia, tis definitely the season. I used to prefer pandoro, but now I really like panettone too! I like the simple versions of both rather than the more fancy ones. But that's not to say I wouldn't turn down a slice :)
I'm lucky because I don't like panettone that much. I find it too dry.
People always give them to me at Xmas and they just sit there collecting dust. I'd prefer a nice bottle of grog!
We've started eating one that's chocolate covered and limoncello filled.
The problem is that they don't cost much and are available everywhere so it's hard to resist the temptation!
One of the delis here (in Los Angeles) has some. If I could find a small one, I might have to break down and buy it.
I just surrender to the fact I'll get fatter this time of year! I'm a pandoro freak!
