Strangest thing I've brought back...

Perhaps the strangest thing I brought back from England this time round is....

Brussel sprouts!

Now, I know that they're not everyone's cup of tea, but I love them! As a child I couldn't bear them and would hide them under my mashed potatoes so that I didn't have to eat them, but not anymore! I'm making up for lost time! I love them with mash and gravy yuuuummm. They're an essential part of Christmas day menu too.

I found them here last summer in Carrefour (supermarket) - which is strange because apparently (according to my aunty) there needs to be a frost on the ground for them to be good. These were imported though, and you can get all veggies all year round now after all. Since this sighting of the sprouts though I haven't been able to find them again. I can only imagine that maybe they didn't sell well? Maybe I was the only one to buy them? Mmmmmm

I had to pay excess for my luggage this time, but the sprouts were worth every penny.

Hi Delina - you can get them in the coop in Bologna! Our fridge is full of them as I stocked up for Christmas thinking they might run out....think I was the only one bulk buying though!

Well, here in Italy they are no famous: but, I've tried from a friend (I'm italian) and is gorgeus.

He prepared "steamed" but the tast and consistency gorgeus. I've tried with grilled steak, and potato and "fagiolini": very very good!

Giulia, cut the bottom bit off, then take the first layer of outer leaves off, some then put a cross on the bottom to make them boil quicker..then just boil them til they're as soft as you like - about 10-15mins usually. Add a bit of salt to taste if you like. Good with a meat + potato meal.

One of my faves too! My family hate them so I just get a small portion from the rosticceria when I fancy. They do them as I like, all soft and squishy!!

I got mine from Lidl for Christmas, couldn't find them in Carrefour.

I only tend to eat them once a year and when I do, I wonder why I don't eat them all year round - I love them :D
