Star or spikey thing on top of the tree?
Tomorrow is a holiday here - Immacolata, so no work. Yippee! Traditionally it's the day when people trim the house up for Christmas and prepare the tree and sometimes the presepe (nativity scene/crib) which are popular here. So this is what we'll be doing tomorrow. Just the tree though, no presepe.
I needed to buy a star for the top and a few more decorations too. looking around I've noticed it's not easy to find a star for the top of the tree here, instead I've found lots of long spikey things which I've found out are called pennacchio (?) - as can been seen in the picture. I'm not sure if this a Neapolitan tradition, or if it extends further afield.
Preferring to have a star on the top of the tree I thought where can I go? Then I decided that surely the Swedes have stars on top of their trees too, so Ikea it was! Mission complete, Ikea saves the day once more, so the star will go on top of the tree tomorrow.

Every Christmas season, on the David Letterman show, they have a Christmas tree with one of those spikey things on top. They proceed to put a large pizza on it and cap the spike with a huge meatball plus gravey. Quite a funny skit.
Hahah funny Gil. :D
Annika, Ikea was quiet last night (about 6pm) very strange. Most of the Christmas decorations were picked over - not much left. Should have gone earlier mi sa...
They will probably have Summer things out before Christmas is over, if they push the seansons in Italy like they do in the US.
I can't believe Ikea was empty! Here (france) was completly out of mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last year I even bought our real Christmas tree from Ikea, though it didn't smell like the English pine ones. Non so perche!!
Hope I haven't left it too late this year, I haven't really got my head into Christmas mode yet!
I couldn't find a star down here either Delina--the spikey things, though, are everywhere. I put a padded, beaded heart on top because it was the prettiest thing I found a few years ago. I have to work on getting a pic for the blog.
As I remember it (haven't had a 'dressed' Christmas tree for years) we always had an angel on top of our tree here in Italy. Of course it was a 'fairy' in the UK!
BTW I love 'Lilly' - what a sweetie. She could almost be my 'Pineen's' (long gone...) twin!
Ikea - now why didn't I think of that! I gave up in the end and tied a bow made out of ribbon to the top, still looks pretty.
I miss the decorations we had in the UK though, I left them in the shed!
In the end I tied a bow on the top as the star I got was too heavy and bent the top of the tree over! Another lesson learnt!
