I don't even have a preference, either will do. Ever tried pandoro with custard? The fourth picture down is so funny. How can she hold her miserable face with a little one dressed up as a zoo keeper with a Santa's hat complete with sun glasses? I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face. Her kids seem to like dressing up (I know I shouldn't read the DM too much, but it's addictive). Er, maybe because when you're expecting a parcel here you never know when, or if, it will arrive.

If they did post to Italy the last order date in time for Christmas would be some time around March. Gosh it's been a while...Anyway, one reason why I've been neglecting my dear blog is that I've been trailing the immobiliare sites, aka house hunting. Today I'm having a bit of a down day, debating if there is any hope of finding anything bigger than a workman's tent in a decent area...Sigh. We're discovering also how the (Neapolitan?) estate agents work, or as the case may be, do not work. We were phoned Saturday morning 30 mins before an appointment supposed to be at 9.45 to say that the owner would be late - s/he would arrive "at around 10:15 or 10:30" Con tutto calma allora. We told them to forget it as we had other appointments and that we would call them. This afternoon we had to cancel an appointment for tomorrow too as we had said 9:30 (yeah, we have to work afterwards) but the agent had us down as 11:30 - sorry but we cannot take a morning off work each for a five minute viewing of a house. Do they want to sell these houses or not? And the agent even expects 3% of the house price too.

Any advice / tips on house hunting / calming techniques / greatly welcomed.
http://delinissima.blogspot.com/
Delinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318448281699620966noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1469321446203133425.post-40718452435340997152008-09-19T18:17:00.002+02:002008-09-19T18:22:44.708+02:00It's a miracle again!The miracle of San Gennaro happened this morning at 9.43.

Phewww
http://delinissima.blogspot.com/
Delinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318448281699620966noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1469321446203133425.post-72691485841351101692008-09-14T20:03:00.010+02:002008-09-14T20:27:07.265+02:00Prague<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_dGvgTdupExOlZy8Bybrh4pfghpWbSp5ePoLS__cKnlkvjV9bmcaHJr_QLwFG_O3N5gaC9rc4AXyY-JrRV1j6wyzENy-7AsCJ0TtDB53qriH9pV7m1ZGtK72CIq0A9trsjwFCQtdMLtg/s320/P9090120.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5245941286716246642" />
I got back from Prague this week. It's a really beautiful city and I'd definitely recommend a visit there. The view over the river with the castle and Charles bridge is just magical.

I'd like to see Prague again in the winter time. This time we were hoping to get away from the heat for a few days, only to hit nearly 30 degrees there too. The evenings were cool at least. So strange as looking at the temperatures for Prague now it's a max of 14°C today.

Blue blue sky in Prague:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh74pSvVF-IbTwkFSQcnjev-PxbcMlzVaoYsxahpqylnChoneKHi28U97OONeNkiI8lufD6F6FN5uoQMsLLfyly8wk7NvNr9ZhyhJlJQO7xcnRgmmaOfzuoxsjqVsk4OLcLa-niWuhBiIE/s320/P9100245.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5245942594794231762" />
My legs and feet have just about recovered from all the walking. We got there about 9.15 for the 9.55 fast boat (aliscafo), I asked for 3 tickets and the man behind the counter said it's sold out :| August strikes again! "What time's the next one?" Man points to the sign "13.10" okaaayy "2 tickets for the 13.10 boat then please" (only 2 as at this point there's no longer any point in me going as I needed to be back early. Man behind the counter "you can't book for that boat until 10.30" :| "Prego? Allora lei non mi può vendere i biglietti ora, devo aspettare qua fino alle 10.30?" We're not talking about tickets to an eagerly awaited Stones gig here, just a ride to one of the nearby islands. What a system. So we did hang around to buy them when I noticed there is another company (Snav) which goes to Procida and they had a boat leaving at 12.30 so I got ticket for that one. Whilst waiting we sat at the bar and I had my first cold cappucino of the year. It's really yummy - coffee with cold milk. Also passively smoked a pack of Marlboro. Blee.

I've since seen that with Snav you can book online - wow, v moderno - so there's no waiting until say 10:30 until bookings can be made. Imagine if the other company had online bookings too, you'd be able to book at anytime and the man behind the counter would have very little to do.

So after a full morning down at the port parents finally made it off to Procida. I couldn't help but notice that they are STILL trying to get a metro station opened down there. I think I blogged about this before (note to self: Have a tidy blog with tags so that you know what you blogged about. Self: But you're not tidy so why have a tidy blog?) I wonder if they'll get to a point where they just decide to give on opening the metro.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjN-_WJ5n2mbutp9uCGfO-h4mApoJQ7ykzGDFRyTC7c3BnjVjQ97z8Y2-gCO3aFHq0GZaC9XFmmr1W9fBAKetJhJO772zqLlgRuwlfYA0fznvNwt6ludjCFdnodzzNk8S8PCCnAXT7Rqdo/s320/P8140056_Delinissima.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5234690161335478482" />
http://delinissima.blogspot.com/
Delinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318448281699620966noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1469321446203133425.post-55649209557773682612008-08-10T12:34:00.003+02:002008-08-10T13:08:42.266+02:00Waiting for a star to fallLove that 80's song! The tenth of August is San Lorenzo, the night when you watch for a falling star and make a wish. The sky is clear blue today so it should be a good night for star gazing.

Naples is bliss just now with everyone "a mare" and the others "in montagna". Why any person living in Naples would voluntarily go on holiday in August and leave the city will remain a mystery to me. It's so quiet, so nice, it feels almost like I live somewhere normal. Traffic!? Just a few years ago by the end of August the city would be practically empty by now, but it seems that habits have changed and not everyone is on holiday. My excuses? Well, I went to England for a while, yes they have internet there too so that's not really an acceptable excuse is it. I did a mega clothes shop both for me and OH. I miss decent shopping so much, though now at least I know that I just don't have the choice here so I stock up in the UK and don't even look here anymore. Something else I noticed that I miss are the long summer nights. It gets dark about 8.30pm here in Naples, whilst in England the days seem so much longer with it not getting dark until something like 9.30pm.

My other excuse for being a bad blogger is that my Mum came to visit. We had a lovely time. I had my first trip to the beach this year, despite thinking I'm so white I would reflect the sun (not really, I had factor 25 on), I got a bad case of sunburn on my stomach and thighs :( Silly silly girl. Won't be doing that again. The pain!

We had lunch at a great beach restaurant in Procida. Yuuuummm. Big portions and friendly staff too.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX-OTivS5HLiSsZUChNWmpCwF3cyuP6ezc-FNSi2_a9gKk1ady15u_ELmI24fGRtBiu80_9Lt7jTlvI2FVYZ1LkERiN-WBsqDl9nCdIi2d24sYZa3GQvF59ParD0tl2GZ4qNeVCTNpIAQ/s200/P6210081_Delinissima.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5217274615293849234" />
Hungry?
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguUtv-HtneXvh1Hak0BdGj3qEVYJ7vpkJSa1fGk71-ptpGJA1voaQfDZPuhk8XP00mmVm8BtuQvVlOk-Zz4VxFXoWYkI8w3OnAG2T7vOdX0wPoDmvItiuHHm03HLIT09mDXIfqHdViYfE/s200/P6210079_Delinissima+1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5217284469718989122" />
Speaking of good staff, or not so good/appalling staff...We did a spot of supermarket shopping when the check out woman decided to count all her change while we were waiting to pay. I was through the other side waiting to bag up, whilst Mum was waiting to pay. We looked at each other, then at the woman, then at each other again. A queue was forming behind us. She continued to count her money. I was torn between saying something and thinking you're not in Kansas anymore Dorothy (ie Italy is not England where customer service is concerned). She finally finished counting then threw the stuff at me as she passed them through. Deary me. Mum asked if we could have filmed her so she could show in her shop how not to treat customers, but I said we'd probably be breaking some precious privacy law by doing that. I also tried to explain the reasons for such people - ie she's probably the daughter of the owner, or has a cast iron contract where she can do what she wants etc etc. Though even though I say these things I don't agree with any of my justifications, even if I didn't enjoy my job I couldn't be rude to customers (who are not rude to me) like that.

Anyway blog, I will try not to neglect you anymore (was going to say promise, but promise is a big word).

A presto,

Delina.
http://delinissima.blogspot.com/
Delinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318448281699620966noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1469321446203133425.post-85444317749699113442008-05-06T21:52:00.005+02:002008-12-09T18:29:02.698+01:00MartediAnyone watching X Factor? The winner IMO should be Emanuele - think he forgot the words to Purple Rain this eve though. The judges are quite nice - not sure that X Factor judges should be nice, Simon Cowell considered. What amazes me most with every installment, is not the singing, but the colour of judge Simona. What colour did she ask for her make up to be? Oompa Loompa? The one I've got isn't that old but it's a Motorola and quite frankly I've persevered enough. Sending texts to the wrong number etc happens too often. It has to be a Nokia this time.

The ones I like are these. What do you think? Anyone got one? I never thought I'd say this, but one of the qualities it has to have is a camera. A few years ago I used to say "why would I need to carry a camera around with me all the time?" But I now realise that it's an essential tool for a blogger.

Or maybe I should just save my money...
http://delinissima.blogspot.com/
Delinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318448281699620966noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1469321446203133425.post-8801835522844989512008-04-30T21:33:00.003+02:002008-04-30T21:41:31.371+02:00EccomiI'm back. We got a taxi to the airport in England, and back from the airport in Naples. The taxi driver tried to rip us off both there and here. There's something kind of homely about that. In England the pre-paid taxi driver said he hadn't been paid when he obviously had been, whilst the Napoletano taxi driver did the usual trick of charging us something like 17.10 and not having the change for a twenty. Same old same old. Much to his disappointment I got my reserve change purse out and gave him the exact money. Teach him. Taxi driver this side didn't wear a seat belt and reeked too.

I'm molto annoyed that I left my bacon and sausage import in the hotel before leaving. We stayed in a hotel the last night you see, and I put my packets of bacon and sausage in a cool bag on the window ledge so they'd keep cool. And that's where they stayed. Boo hoo.
http://delinissima.blogspot.com/
Delinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318448281699620966noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1469321446203133425.post-68749581828557156862008-04-27T09:53:00.003+02:002008-04-27T10:08:55.231+02:00Buona DomenicaI'm at my parent's house in England. It's drizzling but everything is so lovely. The house is so sturdy and quiet - a *complete* welcomed contrast to Naples. There's a garden with tulips and a shed which smells of treated wood. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to live back here - buy a house, work 9-5 etc... But I know that once you have to work and live day to day regular life, then things are different - tutto il mondo e' paese, etc (~ it's the same all over).

I can now blog from here now that my parents are connected to the world :) The keyboard is English e non mi trovo :D
http://delinissima.blogspot.com/
Delinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318448281699620966noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1469321446203133425.post-79816131998213294252008-04-23T21:55:00.007+02:002008-12-09T18:29:02.813+01:00If only all bills were like this<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjypvvDuvDL6-nsJXofzFMOtQ0-p-iENCOl-1RHZC0JMD79OAfVLFS8DwjGf_i2T8AREmYIe7QVxWg0NPuMMi3pdyq0SH-HZRG5cTDdIe2GPJS_qAGTKQZ9es2Q6J-BagdTr6eFDvheqa4/s400/P4060001_Delin~_Delinissima1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5192534507139332754" />
Gas bill total to pay: 0.00 euro.

For anyone wondering why this is, in Italy if you don't communicate your usage, then the gas/electric company "guesses" what you've used. After some months when they eventually get a reading, they straighten things out so you either end up with an enormous bill because you've not paid enough, or you get a zero bill because they guessed wrong and you paid too much.

Luckily for us this time it was the latter! Phew.
http://delinissima.blogspot.com/
Delinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318448281699620966noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1469321446203133425.post-21948684888066625712008-04-20T20:04:00.006+02:002008-04-20T21:55:19.431+02:00DomenicaIt's been lovely weather today. 26 degrees the weather man says. This is about as hot as I'm comfortable with to be honest. Any hotter and I get a bit grumpy.

We bought some new curtains the other day and tried to put them up with "mille chiode" yesterday. Mille chiode is called "no nails" in England. On the UK ad it shows a chair stuck to the wall (with "no nails") and someone sitting on it, so I thought curtains would stay up no problem, but no, not even the rail would hold up. Granted, it was a child sitting on the chair on the ad, but surely he weighed more than a curtain rail. So off we went to buy a drill. We went to Leroy Merlin - so much choice in there. I somewhat begrudge spending money on stuff like drills and can't help equating the cost to a pair of shoes/new clothes, but apparently one needs to have these things. The good thing about being in a rented house is that we can both practice how to use a drill. Curtains are now up, just need to turn them up as they're bunched up on the floor at the bottom. Will leave that for another time, what with Sunday being the day of rest.
http://delinissima.blogspot.com/
Delinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03318448281699620966noreply@blogger.com5
